Girton College website upgrade September 15th, 2009

The Girton College website was one of the first projects undertaken by Etianen.com. Since it’s launch in January 2008, the site has seen an extremely high traffic of visitors, particularly over the UCAS application season, and has performed admirably throughout.

Part of its success is due to the large team of editors who constantly update and release new content to the website. It was powered by an early pre-release of the Etianen.com Content Management system, which has since been developed into an extremely powerful web content platform and used in a large number of sites. With the recent release of version 2.0 of the Etianen.com CMS, the editorial team were keen to upgrade to the new system and benefit from a host of usability and performance upgrades.

The existing website contained over four hundred pages and nearly two years worth of news articles, all of which had to be converted to the new format used by the system. Working closely with the IT administrators at Girton College, we were able to develop a migration script that successfully translated over all the current content. A few additional capabilities were also added to the system, including:

  • Video publication
  • Audio clip publication
  • Slideshow publication
  • Events publication and RSS feed

The new website can be viewed under it’s existing URL:

http://www.girton.cam.ac.uk/

The editorial team will be getting to grips with the new system over the next few weeks. We’re looking forward to receiving any feedback and suggestions they might have!
