ideaSpace website launched April 26th, 2010

A part of the University of Cambridge and supported by EEDA, IdeaSpace is an experiment in connecting innovators to the resources they need to make a meaningful impact on the world around them. It’s currently running two experiments, ideaLab and ideaNet, funded by a major benefaction from the Hauser-Raspe Foundation and the East of England Development Agency.

The website was designed by CottonRendle, and built using the Etianen.com Content Management System. It was built with the aim of expanding in response to community feedback, a concept that has also heavily influenced it’s design.

The major feature on the site at the moment is a logo competition, encouraging people to design the final ideaSpace logo for a prize of £1000. The logo submission and ranking system uses an advanced popularity algorithm based on Baysian statistics, ensuring that the most recently popular logos rise to the top of the site’s rankings.

The site’s fully-featured membership system was built using secure cryptographic hashes for all verification URLs, and provides a rich AJAX interface for voting on each other’s logo designs. If you fancy your design skills I’d highly recommend signing up and entering the competition yourself!
